Rehearsals have started in Glasgow for The Pirates of Penzance, 2013.
This co-production with Scottish Opera has been three years in the planning and we are all very excited to see it open on May 15th at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow.
A full company of over 90 members are working diligently to produce what we believe will be a Pirates for the 21st Century. With Richard Suart returning to bring us his superb Major General Stanley, and with Stephen Page’s Pirate King, which will shiver any ones timbers, the entire company will be just what the ships cat ordered; piratical mirth a plenty, and sumptuous musical expertise from John Owen Edwards and the Scottish Opera Orchestra, we can’t wait to get the production on the stage.
You can pick up all the ticket booking information you need at piratestheshow.com or you can follow us on facebook and twitter by clicking the buttons on this page. (Don’t forget to share to spread the word)…
We all look forward to seeing you in Scotland or any of our ‘south of the border’ venues, up until the end of July… all aboard!!

22nd January, 2001 – D’Oyly Carte are set to return to the Savoy again following their recent successful Mikado season. Following heavy public demand the Company are to revive their production of The Pirates of Penzance which was last seen in London in 1998.

The production is directed by Stuart Maunder and designed by Roger Kirk. Choreography is by Lindsay Dolan and lighting design by Chris Ellis.

This production will build on the newly revived relationship which the Company is enjoying with the Savoy Theatre. The Savoy was built by Richard D’Oyly Carte, the Company’s founder, and is now run by Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen.

The recent season of ‘The Mikado’ which closed at the Savoy on January 13th, 2001, broke box office records and became the highest grossing show at the Savoy since the theatre was re-opened following the fire which destroyed it in 1990. The show ran for 18 weeks, becoming the longest running season of one Gilbert and Sullivan show in history, since the original runs at the Savoy in the 1880′s/90′s.

The Pirates of Penzance is a limited season and will run for just eight weeks. Casting arrangements will be announced at a later date.
